The two men visited a pious sinners and ask for his advice. "We've made a mistake," they said, "and our conscience disturbed. What must we do to be forgiven?"
"Tell me, which one of the deeds you have done, my children," said the old man.
The first man said, "I committed a mortal sin and death."
The second man said, "I have done some minor sins, which do not need to worry about".
"Well", said the religious parents. "Go and bring me a rock for a sin."
The first man returned with carrying a huge stone. The second man is happy carrying a bag of small rocks.
"Now," said the old man, "go and return everything to the place where you have to find it."
The first man took away the stone and carry it back to the place where he had picked it up. The second man can not remember anymore where half the amount of stone that he took, then he gave up and let the stones in his bag. He said the job is too difficult.
"Sin is like the stones," said the old man. "If someone committed a mortal sin, it is like a big rock in his voice. However with genuine regret that mistake will be forgiven entirely. But the man who continuously venial sins, and he knew it was wrong, will the freeze sound his heart and he did not regret it one bit., so he remained as a sinner.
"So know my children", the pious advice, "is just as important to reject venial sins as mortal sins rejected."
